16 One day we were going to the place of prayer. On the way we were met by a female slave. She had a spirit that helped her to tell ahead of time what was going to happen. She earned a lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. 17 The woman followed Paul and the rest of us around. She shouted, “These men serve the Most High God. They are telling you how to be saved.” 18 She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became upset. Turning around, he spoke to the spirit. “In the name of Jesus Christ,” he said, “I command you to come out of her!” At that very moment the spirit left her.
People always like supernatural things, Christians are no exception, such as disease being healed without seeing the doctor, knowing what’s going to happen tomorrow, how to make wealth quickly or where/how
to find Mr/Miss Right…. . Today’s Bible pa
ssage tells us: a person with an Evil-Spirit could do supernatural things by predicting the future.
I am not saying we shouldn’t seek/ask those things (most of them are good things …), but we have to be very careful about who we ask or believe?
Supernatural things are NOT necessarily from Jesus Christ.
1 John tells us: Do not believe every spirit, but test the sprits to see whether they are from God…
2 Corinthians: Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
I like the way Paul responded to the slave girl. He did not angry with her and blame to her. Paul knew it was not caused by her but the evil spirit (behind the slave girl). So, Paul commanded the evil spirit directly, came out of her in the name of Jesus Christ.
Then, the evil spirit escaped and people knew the difference between the slave-girl and Jesus-disciples and Jesus got glory amoung the gentiles.
Dear Lord, help me to love the people (Christian or Non-Christian) created by you, but hate the sins/evil things.
