1 Samuel 6:19-7:2

19 But some of the people of Beth Shemesh looked into the ark of the Lord. So he struck them down. He put 70 of them to death. The rest of the people were filled with sorrow. That’s because the Lord had killed so many of them. 20 The people of Beth Shemesh said, “The Lord is a holy God. Who can stand in front of him? Where can the ark go up to from here?” 21 Then messengers were sent to the people of Kiriath Jearim. They said, “The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord. Come down and take it up to your place.” 7 1 So the men of Kiriath Jearim came and got the ark of the Lord. They took it up to Abinadab’s house on the hill. They set his son Eleazar apart to guard the ark. 2 The ark remained at Kiriath Jearim for a long time. It was there for a full 20 years. All of the people of Israel were filled with sorrow. They looked to the Lord for help.

Today’s passage shows us

God is Holy.

Yes, we all like to be in the presence of God, but, don’t forget God is Holy and we must show respect.

In the beginning, when the people of Beth-shemesh saw the ark came back from Philistines side, they were full of joy. But, then people looked into the ark of the Lord and God struck down and killed about 70 people of Beth-shemesh.

So, they were scared and wanted to send the Ark away instead of repent for what they have done before Lord.  What a pity action.

Then the men of Kiriath Jearim came and

took up the ark cipro norfloxacin of the Lord with respect. So, the Ark of Lord stayed there for 20 years and all the people of Israel mourned and sought after the Lord

What a great result!!

People of Beth-shemesh and Kiriath Jearim both were Israel, but the way they dealt with the Lord (Ark) was totally different, so, the result was very different.

Dear Lord, help me always remember your are Holy, Holy, Holy.
