I tell my kids “there is only one thing worse than being bullied and that’s being the bully”.

This passage is a bit like that but I’d change the phrase to “there is only one thing worse than being betrayed by a friend and that’s being the betrayer”.

David experienced betrayal by someone close to him in Psalm 55. While enemies were at war against him he recognised the thing that hurt the most was “danger from within the city” – the betrayal of a close friend. (v10)

God will care abundantly for those betrayed (V22) but what about the betrayers? What do I do if I’m the betrayer? The only solution with the hope of a good outcome is to go to the person, confess our wrong doing and seek forgiveness.

Lord, give me the courage to always always seek forgiveness from those I have wronged. Please forgive me for hurting those you love. Amen
