1 Peter 1:13-16

13 So prepare your minds for action. Control yourselves. Put your hope completely in the grace that will be given to you when Jesus Christ returns. 14 You should obey. You shouldn’t give in to evil longings. They controlled your life when you didn’t know any better. 15 The one who chose you is holy. So you should be holy in all that you do. 16 It is written, “Be holy, because I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44,45; 19:2)

Whenever I think about how high the expectation is in the Bible for self-control and holiness, I get uncomfortable.

I know that I have salvation and that the price has been paid, but when I think for a while about how I should really be living in terms of holiness, I realise that even after coming so far and even with the power of the Holy Spirit enabling me to achieve far more that I could do in my own strength, I still fall so far short!

Dear Lord, thanks so much that you fill the gap between where I am and where I need to be. Help me to grow continually in my becoming more like Your Son, Jesus.
