Genesis 13:14-18

14 The Lord spoke to Abram after Lot had left him. He said, “Look around from where you are. Look north and south, east and west. 15 I will give you all the land you see. I will give it forever to you and your family who comes after you. 16 I will make them like the dust of the earth. Can dust be counted? If it can, then your family can be counted. 17 Go! Walk through the land. See how long and wide it is. I am giving it to you.” 18 So Abram went to live near the large trees of Mamre at Hebron. There he pitched his tents and built an altar to honor the Lord.

I love how God speaks to Abram.  Here he is he has let Lot pick, knowing God would always provide not simply enough but an abundance.  Look at the promise God gives, all you see is yours, and your offspring will be so numerous you cannot count them.

I have met people who have gone first and taken what they thought was theirs.  God reminds us that the first will be last and the last first.  Abram, in faith in God let Lot go first and receives more, so much more than he could have ever hoped for or imagined.  But isn’t that just like the Lord – to go superabundantly above all we could ask think or imagine!  Lot had seen ‘the best’ and taken it, Abram relied on God and received so much more than ‘the best’.

Am I truly letting the Lord lead me?  Am I pursuing Christ, not for what I can get from Him but for Who He is?  He will never disappoint me, never!

Father I choose again to place my life in your hands – do with me as You will – I am Your servant!
