Ephesians 3:14-21

14 I bow in prayer to the Father because of my work among you. 15 From the Father every family in heaven and on earth gets its name. 16 I pray that he will use his glorious riches to make you strong. May his Holy Spirit give you his power deep down inside you. 17 Then Christ will live in your hearts because you believe in him. And I pray that your love will have deep roots. I pray that it will have a strong foundation. 18 May you have power together with all the Lord’s holy people to understand Christ’s love. May you know how wide and long and high and deep it is. 19 And may you know his love, even though it can’t be known completely. Then you will be filled with everything God has for you. 20 God is able to do far more than we could ever ask for or imagine. He does everything by his power that is working in us. 21 Give him glory in the church and in Christ Jesus. Give him glory through all time and for ever and ever. Amen.

What struck me in a fresh way as I read this today, is the 2nd part of Paul’s prayer that we may have power…

Power for what? – power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ so that we would be filled up with God Himself.

Why is it important for us to grasp how much God’s love extends in every direction?

The width of God’s love speaks to me of how far He extends into every area of my life. There is nothing hidden from Him and nothing too small for Him to notice or to care. Wide, wide love!

The length of God’s love reminds me of His eternal perspective. This life is short, and any struggles that I face in this life are also short compared to my eternal future that will be free from sin and pain. Long, long love!

The height of God’s love is important to remember, and keeps me humble since He is so far above my human abilities and experience. The older I get, the less I value my own abilities and thoughts in comparison to God’s lofty position. High, high love!

The depth of God’s love reminds me that He loves every part of me – the deepest, darkest, secret places that only He can see. If fact, He loves me so deeply that He was willing to pay for my sins on the cross so that He could have a relationship with me. Deep, deep love!

So how does this wide, long, high and deep love affect my life? At any given moment of the day when I get the revelation that He is involved in every part of my life, all powerful, all knowing and absolutely for me, I become powerful. Almighty God is with me and for me – who can stand against me?

Today I reach out to be filled with Your all-encompassing love, and I surrender to You once again Lord Jesus. May I live in Your powerful love, giving You all the glory.
