1 Peter 1:22-25
22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
I have been born again. I have a new life from God and it will never wear out.
When I go to the petrol station I need to put the right fuel in my car; the correct fuel will take me to where I need to go. Health professionals will tell you that what you put into your body and how you use your body will go a long way to extending its life as well.
The same is true of this new life I now have because of Jesus. I need the right fuel for this life if I want to go to the place God wants me to go. Frankly, I need to put in the right fuel, otherwise I will not enjoy this new life the way it is meant to be enjoyed.
There is much that can be said about ‘the right fuel’, but this passage highlights one of the most important fuels for the new life – the Word of God. The Words of God found in the scriptures will outlast every other word I will hear, if I obey them I will find myself in the places God wants me to be.
God, I choose to make reading your words a habit. By your Spirit within me I will obey your words. Take me to the place of sincere love for my brothers and sisters in this new life. As I obey your words I know I will get there. Amen
