9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business.
This passage reminds me that material wealth is temporary. God is not particularly interested in how much money I have in my wallet or bank account. My eternal Father takes a much longer view of things, and Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13 that what endures is faith, hope and love.
Any wealth I acquire will not endure, but if I invest my time, energy and treasure in a life of faith, hope and love, I can be sure of a lasting impact.
God, please help me to be aware of what I am pursuing, and help me to choose your way.
Help me to walk by faith: to be sure of what I hope for and certain of what I cannot see, my faith in you and your promises.
Help me to live with hope: to desire your intervention and await it with expectancy.
Help me to choose a life of love: to desire the greatest good for you, others and myself. Amen
