Day 17 (11 Mar 2020) – A place to belong

1) Ephesians 2:19 (TLB); 2) 1 Timothy 3:15b (GWT)

1) Now you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian. 2) God’s family is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

I love that the Bible tells us, quite plainly, that we are part of God’s family. The experience of healthy family on earth is such a rich experience. Of course, none of our earthly families are perfect, and nor are our experiences in them.

But when I think of my own family, I think of experiences of being loved quite unconditionally, of being accepted in all sorts of different states of mind, and helped practically and faithfully. That God would want us to know that being in His family is like this, with Him as our Father, is incredible to ponder. With our Heavenly Father as head of this family, He makes us fit to belong in His family and helps us learn the habits of heart and life that cause us to belong more comfortably ourselves and create belonging for everyone else.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the rich metaphor you use to describe your church – the family of God. I thank you that as we grow healthy as your family, we are increasingly a place of unconditional love, incredible acceptance, and help that is practical and faithful in all aspects of life. Help each one of us in this your family grow in this grace and grow in this lifestyle towards each other, in Jesus name, Amen.

Love this. “Habits of heart” is a great phrase; praying that He teaches me afresh in this today!
