2 Timothy 1:1-7
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus, 2 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Here in 2 Timothy we see that Timothy came from a generational believing family. His mother Eunice and His grandmother Lois had a profound impact on Timothy’s life, on his discipleship and eventually on being a Pastor of a large church. As a result, they had an impact on Paul’s life as well.
It reminds me as a mother, aunt, friend, pastor, that I too am required to live by faith so that others can see my good works. That I should always be wanting to have an impact in other lives and allow others to follow in my footprints, as I follow in others.
In a world where Covid has turned so many things upside down, each of us needs to return to what we know will help each of us to Go, Grow and Gather.
We need to be willing to GO and reach out to others and help people. We need to GROW and re-establish the habits we once had. We need to get back to praying and reading the word, getting into Connect Group and be challenged afresh. We need to GATHER together in Church and in Connect Groups, so we can stir up each other’s faith and become all that God wants us to be.
We should be helping each other fan into flame our gifts, looking for those who can come alongside and join us in serving others.
We should be praying for each other and laying hands on each other and reminding each other of the gifts we all have to help one another.
The fact is that God did not make any of us timid or want us to step back – He wants and needs us to step out in His power, His love and self-discipline.
What do you need to strengthen in your life?
What do you need to look with fresh eyes in your life?
What do you need to reschedule in your world and place Jesus as Lord?
Lord reveal to us what you need to re-establish in our lives after this crazy season. Help us Lord to step up and step in to all you have for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen
