(31) So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ (32) For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Food, drink, warmth, essential for existence but is it all we should think about? This passage talks about what does and what should consume our everyday thoughts and priorities. It is easy just to concern myself with my immediate wants and needs (personal satisfaction), but if that is all I think about or focus on, then I am just like everyone else in the world- follower of God or not. Instead, Jesus challenges what is fore most in my mind. Is my first thought in the morning ‘God what can I do for you today? How can I bring Glory to you?’ If I am honest, it is probably not the thought that drives my decision making for each and every day. For me this passage is like a promo for Kingdom living: if I will align my priorities with those of the Kingdom then He will take care of the rest. A leap of Faith but then isn’t that what we are about?
Heavenly Father, I offer myself to you today. Guide my steps, inspire my words and empower my actions so that all that I do and say will bring Glory to your name. I ask that you empower believers everywhere by your Spirit. In Jesus Name Amen.
