Proverbs 4:20-27

20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. 24 Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. 25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Have you ever asked the question, ‘what is God’s will for my life?’ At some point I think most of us have, it’s a big question. This passage helps to answer that question in an everyday way.

Verse 23, ‘guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it’. If we are walking in God’s ways, that is living out His word, keeping our heart and mind focused on things eternal – this is the path for our feet – this is the way to live our best life and God’s will for our lives.  We will be walking in wisdom and have gained understanding to what this life is all about. This whole chapter talks about the path we are to walk on through life … choose the one that will bring you life and health, chose wisely, chose the way that God the Father would have us live, by the guidelines he has given.

Father God, thank you that you have given us your wisdom on how to live this life. I pray that I will always keep my heart soft toward you and your Word. Help us to continually choose your way and not the ‘way of the evildoers’.  Amen
