Seeing through me
Luke 20:20-26
20 Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be sincere. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said, so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor. 21 So the spies questioned him: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and that you do not show partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. 22 Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23 He saw through their duplicity and said to them, 24 “Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
25 He said to them, “Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
26 They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
Have you ever tried to fool God? Maybe it was to try and hide something that you are ashamed of or maybe it was to try and trick God into falling in line with your agenda instead of following His.
Whatever the case, as we see here in the passage, fooling God just can’t be done. It’s like when a young child tries to pull off a very obvious lie and then they are amazed when the adult calls them out for their lie.
The gap between a young child‘s and an adult’s wisdom is nothing compared to the all-knowing, all wise God and mere mortals.
This is a timely reminder to me of how wise and fool-proof God is. It may be tempting to try and manipulate Him to see things my way, but it is so much wiser to fall in step with His plans and trust that His way is always, always, always the best way even when I don’t fully understand it.
God we are so grateful for your wisdom and love for us. Forgive us for when we think we somehow know better than You and fail to trust in your good plans for us. Help us to walk in honesty and humility before You.

Thank you for sharing your wise thoughts Shelley! God’s way is absolutely the best, but it’s true that we sometimes don’t see that in the moment
