Jesus asks a question
Luke 20:41-44
41 Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David? 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:
“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
43 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.” ’44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
There are so many tricky questions in this chapter. The Pharisees are wanting to trick Jesus and ask Him “by what authority do you teach”. However, Jesus asks them questions, and when they can’t answer they say, “they don’t know”. (His response is well neither will I tell you).
These are ‘learned’ men in a society of a great deal of illiteracy. They are the people who the community goes to for advice, direction, to help lead them to God. They should “know all the answers”.
Ultimately, they lead with their head, not their heart.
This passage makes me so thankful for the Holy Spirit. Jesus after He is crucified and He leaves this earth, He sends the Holy Spirit.
I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit, a tangible person who comes and lives inside of us and “turns the light on” so we can see Jesus, hear Jesus, feel Jesus, and know Jesus. He is the one who gives us guidance and wisdom. We are never alone.
Christianity is not a mental ascent of how much you know, it is a relationship. Knowing God and being fully Known.
Jesus, thank you. Thank you for coming to this earth to reveal what and who God was like, is like. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to witness to our Spirit that we belong, we are loved, we are known, and you cherish us. Help me Lord and give me keys to share who you are to others. I love you, Lord Jesus.
