Calling on the Lord

Psalm 120

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.
1 I took my troubles to the Lord;
I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer.
2 Rescue me, O Lord, from liars
and from all deceitful people.
3 O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you?
How will he increase your punishment?
4 You will be pierced with sharp arrows
and burned with glowing coals.

5 How I suffer in far-off Meshech.
It pains me to live in distant Kedar.
6 I am tired of living
among people who hate peace.
7 I search for peace;
but when I speak of peace, they want war!

What a beautiful lesson the first two lines of this psalm show. It is said that distress adds wings to our faith. When we can do no more, we can truly rely on God with confidence that He hears and answers. When we face deceit, hostility or any form of distress this life will throw at us, our first response should be to seek God.

Truth has become a commodity in a world full of deceit. Whether it’s personal slander, constant opinions of misinformation, or broader societal lies, we know that God is our refuge. As followers of Jesus, we should continue to seek and promote truth and integrity, living our lives for God.

Dear Heavenly Father, in our distress, we call to You knowing you hear us. We pray You deliver us from deceit and lies, helping us to be people of truth. May we be Your instruments of peace, bringing love and calm to those around us.

In Your precious name, Jesus. Amen
