He Knows the End of the Story
Psalm 125
A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem.
1 Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion;
they will not be defeated but will endure forever.
2 Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people, both now and forever.
3 The wicked will not rule the land of the godly,
for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong.
4 O Lord, do good to those who are good,
whose hearts are in tune with you.
5 But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O Lord.
Take them away with those who do evil.
May Israel have peace!
Have you ever watched a movie where you already knew the end of the story? As you are watching the movie you may find that the story is tense and nerve wracking, but you can have a sense of calm because you know that things will work out well in the end.
What if you knew the end of your own story? What if you could know that what currently looks like a hopeless or difficult situation will turn out well in the end? Would that affect how you viewed your situation?
Psalm 125 gives us a bit of that type of perspective. It reminds us that if we really trust in God, we will not be moved (knocked off course) by our circumstances. No matter what we are facing, God surrounds His people with an immovable sureness and stability like a mountain.
Of course, we don’t know the end of our story but God does. And He has promised that He will look after us both now and forever!
Lord God, we are grateful that you are as solid and dependable as a mountain that can never be moved. May we live in Your peace and assurance, because You know the end of our story.
