The Gift too Wonderful for Words
2 Corinthians 9:11-15
11 Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 12 So two good things will result from this ministry of giving—the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.
13 As a result of your ministry, they will give glory to God. For your generosity to them and to all believers will prove that you are obedient to the Good News of Christ. 14 And they will pray for you with deep affection because of the overflowing grace God has given to you. 15 Thank God for this gift too wonderful for words!
From this passage of Scripture, we can see that God’s intention for his people is that they’d always be generous. The apostle Paul describes the gift of giving as too wonderful for words so he obviously rated the practise of generosity for those wishing to obey Christ. The reasons for this are twofold:
- Believers in need were provided for
- Those believers would in turn thank God
I am challenged about always being generous. That means all the time! How wonderful though that we get to be part of turning people’s hearts to God in joy and thanks. They see God’s goodness, care and provision. The giver and receiver both give thanks to God – perhaps this is why Paul describes the gift of giving as too wonderful for words. All thanks ultimately go to God.
Dear God, thank you that giving to others enriches lives, both the giver and the receiver of those gifts. Show me how I can always be generous to those in need particularly other believers. Amen
