Trust amidst corruption
Titus 1:1-4
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ to further the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth that leads to godliness—2 in the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, 3 and which now at his appointed season he has brought to light through the preaching entrusted to me by the command of God our Savior,
4 To Titus, my true son in our common faith:
Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
I love the oomph of Pauls opening lines to Titus. He states his purpose, to proclaim faith and to teach truth to God’s chosen people. He then reminds Timothy of the truth of eternal life – a promise from the beginning of time, from a God that doesn’t lie.
What an encouragement this must’ve been to Titus who was ministering in Crete. Crete was known for being unsafe, corrupt, and treacherous. A place where truth wasn’t highly regarded and easily cast aside. Yet Paul reminds Timothy to cling to this truth in life and ministry.
Would we each take encouragement in God’s truth and promise of eternal salvation, and would we share this good news to those around us too.
Lord Jesus, thank you that salvation leads to promised eternal life. Would we each have confidence in this truth and be bold to share it with our friends. Amen.
