“When you pray, I will listen. If you look … you will find me”
Jeremiah 29:10-14
10 This is what the Lord says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
Don’t you find it astounding that a letter written over 2,500 years ago to a people taken into captivity in war can still be vitally relevant for us today? I’m sure I’m not the only one who has read or been given or has given this scripture to someone and hung onto it in times of trial, upheaval, uncertainty or even in the excitement of stepping into something new, no matter what stage of life we are in.
This is such a beautiful passage. Today, take some time to soak in it. This passage is for you today! God has plans for you. Your future is ever before him. When I look to him with all my heart, his promise is that I will find him. There is no denying that there are times when this can be hard to do but as God was faithful to those who Jeremiah was writing to, he will be faithful to you and me.
Father God, thank you that there is always a future for each one of us with you. Jesus is our future with hope. Regardless of stage of life we have never arrived, thank you that there is always more. Our futures are ahead with real hope. Holy Spirit help me to always seek the Fathers heart and keep my eyes on Jesus. Amen
