Passion for what’s real
Luke 19:45-48
45 When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. 46 “It is written,” he said to them, “ ‘My house will be a house of prayer’; but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”
47 Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him. 48 Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.
I can’t help but see a connection between Jesus’ passion for the Word and passion for the temple and the crowds’ passion to listen to what Jesus was teaching.
I know for myself that when I listen to anyone speaking passionately about something I become interested in what they are saying. At the same time if the speaker is not excited then why should I get excited about it.
The crowd at the temple had a clear choice of who to listen to. Only Jesus spoke with passion and life. It’s an easy choice.
Today there are so many speakers, so many messages for people to listen to yet God has given us the greatest message, one of hope and life.
I know there are times when I have wondered why the world doesn’t want to listen, but I believe that the world will listen to the message if we speak the message of hope and life with passion – the conviction that it is real.
Father, thank you for giving us real hope and real life. I ask Holy Spirit to be a faithful servant, that the words I speak would be your words, full of hope, life and faith.
